Die Zusammenarbeit mit dem finnischen Komponisten beginnt mit seinen Orchesterwerken Peach für das Finnish Chamber Orchestra und Miracle für das Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Es folgen Auftragskompositionen für das Ensemble Musikfabrik, das Uusinta Ensemble, das Time of Music Festival, das Gaudeamus Festival, das IRCAM und die International Ensemble Modern Academy.

Der 1990 in Helsinki geborene Hilli gehört zur schwedischen Minderheit Finnlands und hat als eine bemerkenswerte Stimme der europäischen Neuen Musik von sich reden gemacht. Davon zeugen Auszeichnungen wie der Teosto Prize, der Gaudeamus Award und Preise beim International Rostrum of Composers sowie beim Toru Takemitsu Kompositionswettbewerb.

Schott Music präsentiert die Erstveröffentlichung der „Sonate posthume“ op. 27bis des belgischen „Königs der Violine“, Eugène Ysaÿe. Sie entstand im Umfeld von Ysaÿes berühmten Zyklus aus sechs Solo-Sonaten für Violine und ist diesen künstlerisch ebenbürtig. Fast hundert Jahre musste das Violinrepertoire ohne dieses Werk auskommen, bis es kürzlich in einem Konvolut der Bibliothek des Koninklijk Conservatorium in Brüssel übergeben wurde. Dem Violinisten Philippe Graffin gelang es im Jahr 2018, Lücken in den 1923 entstandenen Kompositionsskizzen zu schließen und das Werk im Brüsseler Kulturzentrum BOZAR zur Uraufführung zu bringen. Die Notenausgabe ist soeben in der Schott-Violinbibliothek unter der Nummer VLB 226 erschienen.

Und es ist schwer zu erklären, warum diese wundervolle Musik unvollendet geblieben ist und wie ein so schöner Satz wie die Canzona dem Repertoire für Violine für so lange Zeit vorenthalten blieb.“ – Philippe Graffin

Nach dem Tod des Komponisten gingen mehrere seiner Skizzenbücher in den Besitz nahestehender Wegbegleiter über. Besagtes Skizzenbuch wurde von dem englischen Violinisten Philip Newman aufbewahrt, der Ysaÿe besonders nahestand. Nach Newmans Tod im Jahr 1966 wurde ein großer Teil von dessen musikalischen Besitztümern an eine enge Freundin übergeben, der Violinistin Josette Lavergne aus Ostende. Inzwischen ist das Manuskript als „Lavergne-Manuskript“ bekannt und im Koninklijk Conservatorium in Brüssel archiviert.

Das Skizzenbuch enthält Material aus der dritten, fünften und sechsten Solosonate sowie aus der Sonate op. 28 für Violoncello solo. Zudem gibt es einen gut lesbaren und klar notierten ersten Entwurf zu einem anderen Werk, bestehend aus drei aufeinander folgenden Sätzen, mit der Überschrift „6ème Sonate, à Quiroga“. Bei diesem Stück handelt es sich um einen früheren Versuch, den Zyklus aus sechs Sonaten mit einer Sonate in C-Dur/C-moll enden zu lassen. Demzufolge ist das vorliegende Werk im Umkreis der anderen Solosonaten entstanden und wurde wie diese im Sommer 1923 in Knokke-Le-Zoute geschrieben.

Founded in 1770 by Bernhard Schott in Mainz, the Schott music publishing house celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2020. The anniversary’s motto is ‘Joy of Music’ because Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, published by Schott in 1826, is one of the most important works in music history, with Schiller’s famous final chorus ‘Ode to Joy’.

Schott’s Söhne” in the 19th century, when important late works by Beethoven like Symphony No. 9 and “Missa solemnis” were published by the publishing house, and of the collaboration with Richard Wagner.

It also deals with the Schott and Strecker families of publishers, the dawn of modernity, the effects of two world wars, the years of post-war reconstruction, and the expansion into a modern media company and an international publishing group.

The richly illustrated volume is complemented by essays on the most important areas of the publishing house, especially on its educational commitment, as well as on topics such as the publishing archives and sheet music production.
